1. Logging of user activity on the dorm network
Under the Danish Act on Processing of Personal Data (Registerloven), we must inform you about what is logged on the dorm network. This document describes what logging takes place on the dorm network during normal operation and how this data is handled.
2. Logging
All of the association's servers log incoming activity with the following data: date, time, source IP, (destination IP), user login, amount of data and file name. This log data is used to find users who load the server/network beyond the normal, but will not otherwise be analysed to examine individual users' activity. The information is also used for general activity statistics for all users together.
MAC addresses and IP addresses on the dorm network, including the various local networks, are logged in order to manage automatic assignment of IP addresses, identify new/unregistered users on the network, and troubleshoot.
The association reserves the right to periodically log other server activity, including users' pings and port scans of active IP addresses, in order to record their number and type. Note that users may not ping or port-scan on the dorm network without prior permission from FKO's board.
Unauthorised attempts to gain access to FKO's servers and active equipment are also logged on these.
3. Access to log data
All log data is handled by selected administrators who, either through a board responsibility or a signed confidentiality agreement, are aware that this data is confidential.
For servers using the association's line to the Danish research network (Forskningsnettet), log data can be handed over to SDU – University of Southern Denmark, if they request it (they are responsible for our connection through Forskningsnettet). For other servers/active equipment, log data is only used internally or handed over to the police. However, a specific enquiry from other administrators on the internet may be answered without disclosing other information.
4. Archiving of log data
Log data is normally kept for one year.
